For more than a century, the Pleasant Hill neighborhood has celebrated community, culture, and connection through its annual May Day celebration. Now, 102 years after the first recorded event in 1924, residents and community partners are invited to revive that tradition and celebrate the neighborhood\u2019s lasting legacy.<\/p>\n
Join the celebration on Saturday, May 9<\/strong>, at Mattie Hubbard Park<\/strong> (1991 First Ave) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m<\/strong>. The free community event will honor the neighborhood\u2019s history while connecting residents with local programs, services, and resources provided through community organizations and partners.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s celebration is made possible through the work of Reimagining Community Connections (RCC) Mini Grant recipients Monica Miller and JaCory Marcus, who helped bring the historic event back to the neighborhood.<\/p>\n \u201cThe original May Day celebrations in Pleasant Hill were known for bringing neighbors together through fellowship, entertainment, and the crowning of May Day royalty,\u201d said Miller. \u201cWe hope this year\u2019s event will not only celebrate the neighborhood\u2019s past but also help strengthen relationships and opportunities for current and future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n Community members can expect music, activities, local resources, and opportunities to connect with organizations serving the area.
