{"id":77260,"date":"2026-01-23T10:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-23T15:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maconbibb.us\/?p=77260"},"modified":"2026-01-23T10:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T15:38:11","slug":"mlkday2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maconbibb.us\/mlkday2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds march together to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u2019s legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of people from across Macon-Bibb County filled the streets on Monday to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., coming together for the annual MLK Day March in a powerful show of unity and reflection.<\/p>\n<p>Community members of all ages began the march from four locations across the county, eventually converging at City Hall. Families, students, faith leaders, elected officials, and neighbors walked side by side, united by a shared commitment to Dr. King\u2019s message of love, service, and justice.<\/p>\n<p>Standing on the veranda of City Hall, Mayor Lester Miller reflected on the significance of the moment and the importance of coming together, especially during challenging times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the dark and challenging days, we have faced in different corners of our community, today we are gathered together as one,\u201d said Mayor Miller. \u201cWhat I see here today is a community that is together\u2026 that is joined\u2026 that is one\u2026 in its resolve to continue creating a beloved community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The gathering took place in the heart of downtown, with the reimagined Rosa Parks Square nearing completion in front of City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are physically in the center of our city,\u201d Mayor Miller told the crowd, \u201cBut you, as its people, are always at the center of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his remarks, the Mayor emphasized perseverance, compassion, and the responsibility to continue Dr. King\u2019s work beyond one day of remembrance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing worth doing is easy,\u201d he said. \u201cThis road is hard, but it is a road we must travel. And travel it together we will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the march concluded, the energy was unmistakable.
